Diabetic Eye Care

Diabetic Eye Care

Diabetic eye disease is one of the most important conditions we manage because it reflects not only eye health, but overall systemic health. Diabetes affects the smallest blood vessels in the retina, and over time circulation throughout the body. Because of this, diabetic eye care is closely connected to overall medical health, including cardiovascular and neurological well-being.

At Sheldon Vision Care, our role is to carefully evaluate how diabetes is affecting the eyes and to help patients understand what those changes mean in the context of their overall health. Through detailed examination and retinal imaging, we are able to identify early signs of disease and monitor progression over time. Just as importantly, we help patients make the connection between what we see in the eye and how blood sugar levels and systemic health are impacting the body. When patients can see and understand how blood sugar affects the retinal blood vessels, it often creates a clearer understanding of why management and coordination with their primary care physician or endocrinologist is so important. These conversations help connect daily habits, medical treatment, and long-term health outcomes.

Our goal is to support patients through ongoing monitoring, early detection of changes, and meaningful education that helps them better understand their condition. By working closely with each patient over time, we aim to preserve vision while also supporting overall health and quality of life.

Schedule Your Diabetic Eye Exam Early detection is one of the best ways to protect your vision from diabetes-related eye disease.

Cataracts

Cataracts

At Sheldon Vision Care, our role goes beyond diagnosing cataracts. Through careful followup and meaningful conversation, we help patients determine when surgery will provide the greatest benefit and coordinate care before, during, and after the procedure. We help patients navigate every step of the cataract journey. Because every patient has unique vision needs, lifestyle considerations, health factors, and personal goals, we believe cataract care should never be one-size-fits-all.

We are fortunate to work with several talented and highly respected surgical teams throughout the region. Our experience helps patients: determine the right timing for surgery, the right surgical team and philosophy, and understand the most appropriate lens implant options available.

Our goal is to provide clear guidance and personalized recommendations so patients can make confident decisions about their vision. By considering each patient’s unique circumstances, we strive to deliver the best possible visual outcome and surgical experience.

Glaucoma Care

Glaucoma Care

Glaucoma is a complex disease. Often known as “the silent thief” glaucoma is often times symptomless. Without proper care and management, glaucoma can lead to significant and permanent vision loss.

We often describe glaucoma examination and analysis as gathering pieces to a larger puzzle. At Sheldon Vision Care, we take a personalized approach by evaluating the many factors that contribute to glaucoma including: family history, systemic health, vascular health, eye pressure, optic nerve analysis, retinal health, and functional vision testing. Our role is to help patients understand how those pieces fit together, determine whether the disease is stable or progressing, and develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

From selecting the most appropriate medications to coordinating care with trusted glaucoma specialists when advanced treatment or surgery is needed, we guide patients through every stage of the process. Our goal is to preserve vision, maximize quality of life, and ensure that every patient receives the right care at the right time.

Our mission in glaucoma care is to combine advanced diagnostics, personalized recommendations, and ongoing support to help patients protect their vision for years to come.

Macular Degeneration Care

Macular Degeneration Care

Macular degeneration can be a frustrating and life-changing condition, which is why we believe patients deserve more than just a diagnosis. At Sheldon Vision Care, our role is to provide ongoing support, careful monitoring, and personalized guidance throughout every stage of the disease.

One of the most important aspects of macular degeneration care is vigilant observation. Through regular examinations and advanced retinal imaging, we closely monitor for signs of progression and help identify changes as early as possible. Early detection allows us to coordinate timely treatment with trusted retinal specialists when needed.

Beyond monitoring the disease itself, we focus on helping patients maintain the best vision and quality of life possible. From nutritional recommendations and vision-preserving strategies to visual aids and lifestyle adaptations, we work alongside our patients to maximize their remaining vision and for maximum independence.

Our focus in managing macular degeneration is to provide compassionate support, proactive examination, and personalized care designed to help patients preserve their vision and continue doing the things they enjoy most.

Dry Eye Care

Dry Eye Care

Dry eye disease is a chronic condition that can affect comfort, vision, and quality of life. While many people associate dry eye with symptoms such as burning, irritation, or dryness, it can also cause fluctuating vision, excessive tearing, and visual instability. Because dry eye has many different causes and contributing factors, no two patients experience it exactly the same way.

At Sheldon Vision Care, we take a personalized approach by identifying the factors contributing to each patient’s symptoms and ocular surface dysfunction. Our evaluation considers tear quality, tear production, eyelid and meibomian gland function, inflammation, environmental factors, overall health, medications, and lifestyle considerations. Our role is to help patients understand the source of their symptoms and develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs and circumstances.

Dry eye is not a condition that is typically cured with a single treatment. Instead, successful management often requires a combination of therapies that may change over time. From at-home treatments and prescription medications to advanced in-office procedures, we work closely with patients to find the most effective and practical treatment options while balancing comfort, convenience, and long-term results.

Our goal is to improve comfort, stabilize vision, and enhance quality of life by providing personalized recommendations, ongoing support, and treatment strategies that evolve as each patient’s needs change.

Floaters and Flashes

Floaters & Flashes

Floaters and/or flashes are common visual symptoms that many people experience as they age. Floaters often appear as spots, cobwebs, strands, or shadows that drift through the field of vision. Flashes are brief streaks or flickers of light that may occur when the vitreous gel inside the eye pulls on the retina. While these symptoms are often a normal part of the aging process, they can occasionally be a sign of a more serious retinal condition.

At Sheldon Vision Care, we take a personalized approach to evaluating floaters and flashes. Our examination focuses on determining whether the symptoms are related to normal vitreous changes or whether they may indicate retinal holes, tears, detachments, hemorrhages, or other conditions that require prompt treatment.

New onset floaters or flashes should always be evaluated promptly. In many cases, we are able to see patients the same day or within 24 hours to perform a thorough retinal assessment. If necessary, we coordinate care with trusted retinal specialists to ensure timely evaluation and management.

Even when no retinal complications are found during the initial examination, careful follow-up is often important. The first several weeks after symptom onset represent the highest-risk period for retinal changes to develop. Ongoing monitoring allows us to ensure that the condition remains stable and that patients receive the appropriate care at the appropriate time.

Our goal is to provide prompt evaluation, clear guidance, and peace of mind while helping patients protect their vision and maintain long-term retinal health.
